Download the template and set the language.

Download the workbook, open the about tab, and use the Language selector. English is the default. If you choose French, Spanish, or Dutch, the workbook keeps English available and shows the selected language beside it.

One template, four languages

You no longer need a separate file per language. Change the selector on about; the title, visible column headers, and exercise names update automatically.

2

Work in the programs tab.

The programs tab has 700 prepared lines. Add one row per exercise or named WOD. Use the dropdown in Exercise / WOD where possible; the hidden helper columns fill in IDs, item kind, and English names for the app.

Rows that share the same Week and Day become one workout day in the app. The default template does not need rest-day rows.

Hidden data is intentional

Row 1 and several columns are hidden and protected. They store technical keys such as program_id, item_id, item_kind, exercise_en, and rest_sec. Do not unhide or edit them.

Example rows in the new format:

What to change — and what not to.

You can

  • Change the language on about
  • Edit visible cells in programs
  • Add, clear, or replace program rows
  • Use English or the selected language for exercises
  • Use starred WODs from the picker
  • Leave optional cells blank

Don't

  • Unhide or edit row 1
  • Unhide or edit hidden columns
  • Rename visible headers
  • Delete protected tabs or columns
  • Merge cells
  • Put two exercises in one row
Keep the workbook structure intact

The app reads the hidden technical headers, not just the visible labels. If you unhide and change those cells, remove protected columns, or rename the workbook sheets, import can fail.

Exercises tab

The exercises tab is mostly a reference. It shows English plus the language selected on about. The hidden helper tabs behind it are used by dropdowns and import; users do not need to see or edit them.

5

Export as .xlsx.

When you are done editing, keep the file as .xlsx. Home Gym Buddy imports Excel workbooks and reads the hidden workbook data inside them.

AppExport path
ExcelSave the workbook normally as Excel Workbook (.xlsx).
Google SheetsFile › Download › Microsoft Excel (.xlsx).
NumbersFile › Export To › Excel, then choose .xlsx.
6

Use it in the iOS app.

Home Gym Buddy works with the same workbook flow shown in the app: save or download the template, edit it in your spreadsheet app, then import the finished .xlsx from Settings.

Home Gym Buddy Settings screen with Import Program and Save Program Template actions

Start in Settings.

Use Save Program Template if you want the in-app copy, or Import Program when your edited workbook is ready.

iOS Files picker showing program workbook files

Pick the workbook.

Choose the saved .xlsx from Files. Google Sheets users should download as Microsoft Excel first.

Program detail screen after a workbook has been imported

Check the program.

After import, open Programs and review the generated weeks, sessions, exercises, loads, and notes before you start training.

7

Pre-import checklist.

Run through this before you upload. Most import errors come from one of these.

  • The workbook still has the visible tabs about, programs, and exercises
  • The language selector on about is set the way you want
  • You edited the programs tab, not a hidden helper tab
  • Every program row has Week, Day, Block, and Exercise / WOD
  • Week, Day, Session, Sets, Load, and RPE are plain values, not formulas
  • There are no merged cells
  • Hidden row 1 and hidden columns are still hidden and unchanged
  • The file is saved as .xlsx

If the app flags any rows on import, check those rows against this list. Still stuck? Email support@homegymbuddy.com.

Frequently asked questions.

Do I need a separate template for each language?+
No. Use the language selector on the about tab. The template keeps English available and shows the selected language beside it.
Why are some rows and columns hidden?+
They store IDs and helper values that make import more reliable. Leave them hidden. You only need the visible cells.
Can I remove all rest days?+
Yes. The default template no longer needs rest-day rows. Only add a rest block if you intentionally want a rest session imported.
Can I type my own exercise if it is not in the list?+
Yes. The dropdown is preferred because it fills helper data, but a custom exercise name can still be imported.
What does a starred WOD mean?+
Starred items such as ★ Fran are named workouts from the hidden WOD library. The app can expand them into their workout steps during import.
